Spectacular start to Cape to Rio race

Cape Town, Saturday 11 January 2003:
At 15.00 this afternoon the second fleet sets off in spectacular fashion from Cape Town at the start of the 3,400 mile Cape to Rio 2003 race, accompanied by a flotilla of water craft filled with enthusiasts all anxious to be part of a stunning spinnaker start, as a brisk south-easterly has been forecast.
Other onlookers are likely to crowd vantage points on Signal Hill, the V&A Waterfront and the Mouille Point promenade.
The SAP Cape to Rio race is one of the world’s greatest yacht races between arguably two of the most beautiful and spectacular port cities anywhere on the globe.
This time round the race has attracted thirty-three entries including twelve international entries from Australia, Brazil, Denmark, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
Last Saturday the first fleet got underway and is currently heading west into the South Atlantic, amidst reports of lighter wind conditions
