Safmarine upgrades Torm Line service
Dec 23, 2002
The new service times follows the takeover of Torm Lines by AP Møller in September 2002 and will come into effect in mid December with Safmarine appointed to handle their breakbulk services.
According to Albert Pegg, Safmarine's breakbulk services executive, the acquisition of Torm Lines and the decision that Safmarine will handle the breakbulk services fits well with their existing multi-purpose operations between Europe and West Africa and between Southern Africa and West Africa.
"Several Torm Lines personnel have been integrated into the Safmarine team and will provide continuity in customer relationships, which is very important to Safmarine's philosophy," he said. In addition to providing faster transit and direct routing, Safmarine will also offer long-term commitment to trade with West Africa. Other benefits include Safmarine representation in the markets served; on line website facilities including the breakbulk track and trace feature; and security through Safmarine's membership of C-TPAT (the US Government's 'Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism'.
