The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) intends discussing what it says is a continued absence of any consultation by government with organised labour on the proposed privatisation (concessioning) of the ports.

“For eighteen months Satawu has attempted to engage government on the substance of port restructuring. All efforts have to date failed. This lack of consultation is out of line with the National Framework Agreement on the restructuring of state owned enterprises.”

Satawu says the lack of consultation will be discussed by its central executive committee tomorrow morning (10 April) and an announcement of intended actions will be made at a subsequent press conference to be held at 13.00. National office bearers of the union will take questions from the press at the conference, which will be held at the Randburg Towers Hotel, Main Road, Ferndale, Randburg.
