Attempt to refloat Sealand Express fails
Aug 30, 2003
The latest attempt made last night (Friday) to refloat the stranded container ship Sealand Express, which went aground in Table Bay near Cape Town on Tuesday, 19 August, was unsuccessful, although salvage efforts managed to dislodge the 32, 900-gt ship ‘just a little’.
Before the first attempt this weekend, during a spring high tide ‘window period’ salvage master Captain Dave Main told reporters in Cape Town that he wasn’t too confident of success.
A further attempt is due to be made later today during high tide.
