Two well-known personalities in the shipping and marine industry, Durban-based Peter Storm and Swiss-based Captain Chris Lueddeke, who recently moved to Durban, have teamed up to establish a unique marine insurance service in South Africa.

The company, known as Marine Risk and Insurance Consultants (MRI), is operating in Southern Africa as a division of Harbour Marine and General Insurance (Pty) Ltd.

According to managing director Peter Storm, the company acts as principle agent and broker for a number of European as well as South African marine underwriters, and is the Southern African correspondent for a Swiss-based marine consultancy group that specialises in marine arbitration, bill of lading litigation and the handling of marine and general average claims.

“MRI commenced trading in SA on 1 November this year and is now in a position to offer clients cost effective land and marine transit cover, backed by specialised risk management and claim assessment services,” Storm said.

The company specialises in customising marine and transit policies on behalf of cargo owners and third party logistics service providers in Southern Africa.

An associate company, Shipping & Transport Consultants (Pty) Ltd complements the services of MRI by offering clients a logistics cost and method assessment service.

“We are currently negotiating a merger with an empowered company which will position our group to comply with the provisions of the marine and financial services empowerment charter,” he said.

MRI can be contacted through Rob Hill, Gary Bloxham or Peter Storm on telephone 2731 266 1348 or fax 2731 266 1356 or via email at mail@hlog.co.za
