Maputo dredger identified
Dec 2, 2003
The trailing suction dredger on charter to Dredging International to deepen the approaches into Maputo harbour (see News & Stories report in Ports & Ships dated 24 November) has been identified as Waterway, owned by the Westminster Dredging Co Ltd of The Netherlands, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster.
On 1 December the Dutch dredger was off the Namibian coast en route for the Mozambique capital where she is expected to arrive at the weekend or early next week.
Waterway was launched in 2002 by the Merwede Shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam and is the recipient of the 2002 ‘Ship of the Year’ award from the Royal Netherlands Association of Maritime Technicians for being ‘an example of innovative design in good collaboration between the principal, the yard and research’.
