Sailing ship Khersones nears Durban

The Ukraine sail training ship Khersones is due in Durban on Sunday, February 29 for a short visit.
The modern all-steel windjammer is presently on a round Africa cruise that has already seen her visit Cape Town. From Durban the ship will sail for Mauritius and La Reunion before heading north to the Seychelles and then into the Red Sea and Suez Canal.
STS Khersones is homeported at Kerch in the Crimea, Ukraine and measures 108.6m in length, has a 14m beam and a draft of 6.7m. Her impressive sail area of 2,771 square metres is carried on three masts.
She is one of the most modern windjammers afloat having been launched in Gdansk shipyard in 1989 as one of six fully rigged ships of the same type. Nowadays she sails under the Ukraine flag offering a full nautical education for up to 48 cadets in addition to her crew of 40 and a passenger complement of 90.
