Safmarine Congo collision wasn’t in Cape Town
Mar 4, 2004
The Harbourmaster of Cape Town, Captain Eddie Bremner has pointed out that the collision involving the general cargo SD14 vessel Safmarine Congo did not take place in Cape Town as reported in Ports & Ships on 24 February.
He told P&S today that the ship arrived in the port in that condition. When the report was made a spokesperson for Safmarine had been unable to confirm whether the ship had suffered any damage.
Meanwhile Safmarine Congo arrived in Durban this week under her own power to work scheduled cargo and undertake repairs at Maydon Wharf 9. The ship has a 7m gash in the bows above the waterline that is being repaired by Messrs Elgin Brown & Hamer.
