Safmarine appoints new CEO

Multi-trade carrier Safmarine has appointed Ivan Heesom-Green, currently Safmarine's Liner Director, as its new Chief Executive Officer. Heesom-Green steps into the shoes of Howard Boyd, who retires on 30 June, 2004 after a distinguished career of 34 years with the Safmarine Group.
Howard Boyd joined Safmarine in 1970 as assistant accountant. He was promoted to the position of management accountant, and later financial controller. He held several trade management positions in Africa, North America and Europe prior to his appointment as Safmarine Executive Director for liner and bulk divisions in 1991. In 1994 he was appointed to the Board of CMBT.
A dual South African/British national, Ivan Heesom-Green joined Safmarine's Cape Town office in 1990. He held various positions in the company's finance, marine and liner departments. A former Safmarine Group Marine Executive, Heesom-Green assumed responsibility for the Liner Division of Safmarine (Pty) Ltd in 2002 and was appointed as Safmarine's Liner Director in April 2003.
