Durban port helicopter downed for service
May 18, 2004
The Augusta 109 helicopter used by the National Ports Authority for the ferrying of marine pilots has left for Pretoria to undergo its mandatory strip-down maintenance service, which is expected to last about four weeks.
In the interim the port will revert to using the pilot boat Ballito but when necessary the Richards Bay helicopter may be called in to assist at Durban.
An additional ferry fee to and from Richards Bay will apply for those requiring the helicopter service to ships at the single buoy mooring at Isipingo or at the Durban outer anchorage.
