Durban’s SBM shuts for maintenance
May 4, 2004
The single buoy mooring (SBM) outside the port of Durban (opposite Isipingo to the immediate south of the port) will shut for annual maintenance on Sunday, 9 May and reopen on 19 May.
“We are building up to our annual hose change and maintenance period for the SBM,” said a spokesman to Ports & Ships.
“We should start the work on Sunday after a waterflush by the Oscilla (the final ship booked ahead of the maintenance). We are changing a submarine hose string and replacing 17 hoses in one of the floating hose strings and anticipate restarting on the 9th and pressure test the whole SBM system and submarine line on the 18th. The first tanker will then discharge again on the 19th of May.”
