The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) has extended Horst Kleinschmidt's contract for a further four years as Deputy Director-General of DEAT's Marine and Coastal Management branch. Kleinschmidt's contract expired on 31 August 2004.
"We are pleased that Horst Kleinschmidt has agreed to extend his contract for a further four years. We believe that he will add further value to the fishing industry as we acknowledge the pivotal role that he played in stabilising the fishing industry", said Dr Crispian Olver, Director-General of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
Horst Kleinschmidt said he is looking forward to further contribute towards the fishing industry.
"One of my biggest challenges will be the allocation of the first long term fishing rights in South Africa and to continue to ensure that our fish stocks are managed in a sustainable way."
