Eyewitnesses on the scene near Port Grosvenor on the Wild Coast report that oil is leaking from the stricken general cargo vessel BBC China, which went aground during Saturday night (16 October).
The crew was safely airlifted from the vessel shortly after midnight last night by a helicopter chartered from the Port of Durban, after the ship’s master requested assistance when his ship’s engine room began flooding.
The crew was landed on the nearby beach from where a bus collected them earlier this morning and is currently on the way to Durban.
