Give us a chance, says new port operator

In the current newsletter of the Mozambique Centro de Promoção de Investimentos (CPI, or in English ‘Investment Promotion Centre’), the new operator of the Nacala Port predicts it will be only a matter of time before the problems at the port are sorted out.
Fernando Couto of the Corredor de Desenvolvimento do Norte (CDN), which last week took a 15-year concession to operate the Nacala port and railway to Malawi, said one of the first problems being attacked was congestion at the Nacala Container Terminal.
“We believe that significant improvements could be registered within a period if at least 90 days,” he said.
He added that investment would also be made to acquire new equipment for different sections of the port in order to rehabilitate and modernise port infrastructure.
The company intends investing a total of US $60million during the 15 years of the concession period
