World Class Performance

Partnerships create global business solutions

South African Port Operations in partnership with Commercial Cold Storage, a subsidiary of the Oceana Group, has launched a specialized fruit terminal at Maydon Wharf. This is one of the first examples of Government’s new port policy of encouraging Private-Public Partnerships.

Constructed at a cost of R61.5 million the terminal has a capacity of 4 800 pallets under rapid cooling for steri-citrus and a further 1 500 pallets for conventional cooling and storage. It is expected to boost the export market, particularly exports of steri-citrus to Japan.

SAPO has also established a new woodchip facility at Maydon Wharf in a joint venture with NCT Durban Woodchip (Pty) Ltd and Agriport, which is wholly owned by SAPO.

In Richards Bay SAPO in conjunction with CTC, the world’s largest manufacturer and exporter of woodchips, has upgraded and improved their woodchip loading operations at the Dry Bulk Terminal.

A high volume woodchip loader, commissioned at the end of 2004 to increase export capacity, is helping to make this terminal the world’s best and most efficient woodchip loading facility.

These developments represent progressive and harmonious joint ventures where SAPO and its partners have linked facilities and fields of expertise to provide world class performance and stimulate growth.
