Clipper Race update
Just three hours into the next leg of the Round the World Clipper Yacht Race which takes the competitors from Fremantle to Singapore, one of the yachts, Cardiff has had to turn back to harbour to fix a faulty rudder. The unfortunate yacht had to be lifted from the water to undergo inspection.
Earlier this morning, after an enjoyable stopover at the Western Australian port the ten yachts got underway on leg 5 that takes them up the West Australian coast and through the islands making up Indonesia towards Singapore. Westernautsralia.com was first away in front of her home crowd and soon had a small lead over the others.
By 17.00 today Westernaustralia.com had opened a gap of 14 miles on the last-placed yacht but only one mile ahead of second-placed Qingdao. Then comes Jersey in third, Singapore, New York, Durban, Glasgow, Victoria and Liverpool, with Cardiff still to restart after her mishap.
The yachts are expected to arrive in Singapore from 15 January.
