BREAKING NEWS 10.30PM - SHIP SINKS OFF SA COAST

The fully laden iron ore bulk carrier Alexa Adrostango has broken in half about 300 miles south of Port Elizabeth and has sunk, according to reports just to hand.

A second vessel, Fortune Express responded to calls for assistanca from the stricken vessel and is now within two miles of the last position of the bulker and is attempting to pick up survivors from the bulkerís lifeboat.

According to a Port Elizabeth port official a C130 aircraft of the South African Air Force has been placed on standby to fly from Port Elizabeth at first light if required.
