Johannesburg, 21 November 2008 -The chief executive of Transnet, Maria Ramos announced today that she is to step down as head of the national transport company at the end of February 2009.

Her resignation comes as not exactly a great surprise following several hints of her intention to move on in recent months. Ramos was appointed to the parastatal five years ago at a time when the company was incurring large losses and has overseen its transformation into a successful and profitable organisation.

There will be a full report in our next daily News Bulletin, due on Monday 24 November and available also via the Newsletter.
