The Durban Car Terminal operated by South African Port Operations has had its Noscar rating approved for the second consecutive year.

“We are proud of this achievement and the results once again highlight our commitment to remain a world class business with exceptionally high safety, health, environment, risk and quality standards, said Lorraine Curia, Support Services Manager at the Durban Car Terminal.

“We have now sets our sights on aiming for the highest achievement, Noscar status. This means that we must maintain our Noscar rating for three consecutive years. Teamwork and commitment from all is essential to ensure the successful achievement thereof, which is reflected in our motto Together Everyone Achieves More!

“Through a team effort we also managed to improve our score by one percent to 96%. This is a good improvement because it becomes more difficult to improve on a good rating

“Throughout the year, a substantial amount of work went into ensuring documentation was accurate and properly kept and that all staff had a total understanding of what the safety risks in the terminal are,” said Curia.

To this end the car terminal has taken its safety training through all levels of employees including the security company employed at the terminal.

“There is no point in having a brilliant system if our people do not know about it and how it works,” said Curia.
